Saving money on Vacation, Part II
I am leaving on vacation in a few hours and thought I would share a few little tips on how my family is saving money this year.
1. We are driving. Yes, flying has its place, but when you are only crossing a state or two it is worth driving. Especially with kiddos.
2. I am up to date on my car’s maintinance. This one seems obvious, but it’s a big one. Make sure your up to date on your oil, filters and that all the tires have the proper amount of air in them, you will get better gas milage.
3. Pack food. This one goes for the airport too, but it’s just as important if you are driving. If you stop at a fast food place on the way you will be spending about $7 a person (at least). If you pack cold cuts, cheese, bread, fruit and other goodies you can slash that cost, even if you have to buy the cooler the first time.
4. Don’t stay in a hotel. I know it’s not always possible, but see if you can swap houses with friends or family, or just see if you can stay with someone. It may not feel like a “real” vacation if you aren’t staying in a hotel, but if you are saving $100+ a night your wallet will thank you.
These are just a few tips, I will share more as I find them ![]()
